Part four of my eleven part interview with ventriloquist David Pendleton.

Video Transcript:

I was growing up in small country churches.

You know, little country churches would have their mother-and-daughter banquets or father-son banquets. I did shows for those.

But I’ve also seen larger churches that exist now, the ones that do events and comedy concerts. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of Tim Hawkins?

I know the name.

Yes, Tim is pretty much at the top right now in the Christian comedy world. He’s performing at churches where there are two, three, four thousand seats. He’s doing these ticketed events where people are coming out, and he’s literally filling those places.

Now, I refer to Tim as doing that, but I don’t consider myself necessarily at that level. When I say that, I mean Tim comes in as an independent artist. They book him, and his team handles all the ticket sales and promotion.

However, there are churches out there that do events like that. They bring in acts like mine and other special performers who can carry the show. Of course, there are also services where people bring in an act as a special concert event.

So yeah, that’s a whole different level than the church basement mother-and-daughter banquet that we’ve all done—and that I still occasionally do when asked.
