Video Transcript:
Now what markets are you currently working in?
Well, I work across a fairly broad demographic because my show is clean but general. When I say general, I mean I do find myself working in church markets—or, you know, Christian… I hate to even use that term, but you know what I’m talking about. Christian markets meaning Christian conferences or events that are specifically aimed at a Christian audience.
But I’m not exclusively in that market. You know, there are some guys out there—I remember back in the day, early on—where people would label themselves “gospel ventriloquists.” Kind of like in the magic world, where you have “gospel magicians.”
To make the distinction: gospel magicians typically always had some sort of spiritual or gospel message wrapped up in virtually everything they did. You know, “the black silk represents sin, the white silk represents redemption.” Everything had some kind of spiritual meaning.
That can be true for ventriloquists as well—some label themselves that way, and all their content has some sort of spiritual or gospel lesson in it. I decided early on that wasn’t me. I didn’t want to be pigeonholed in that category.
However, as somebody who wanted to share my faith at least on some level, I did want to put something together that would communicate that from the stage when appropriate. Not every time I perform do I necessarily include that little spiritual nugget, but I’m certainly willing and excited to do that when it’s appropriate and when I’m called upon to do so.
Does that make sense?
It makes a lot of sense, yeah. I know acts who will dabble in schools, and they basically do their act and then tie things in to create the educational message. It sounds like that’s the same type of thing you’re doing.
Yeah, totally—except with more of a spiritual bent to it.
