This past week, the world of ventriloquism experienced a great loss, when Clinton Detweiler passed away. Many people have shared their feelings and their sadness. I didn’t know how to express myself. All I could say was Rest In Peace.
Who was Clinton Detweiler some may ask? He ran Maher Ventriloquist Studios from 1979 until it closed in 2006. Even after it closed, Clinton continued to make and sell ventriloquist figures along with running the Maher Course of Ventriloquism.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Clinton, although he was a great friend. I graduated the Maher Course and Clinton not only helped, but inspired me. Over the years, we corresponded as he watched my growth in the business. I was truly honored last summer when Clinton asked me to be a part of a project that, unfortunately, never happened due to his untimely passing.
Clinton touched more lives than he may have realized. His kindness, concern and friendship helped take the art to new levels.
As I struggled with putting my feelings into words, I came across Terry Fator’s tribute. I share it here and say “Thank you Terry, you expressed what I couldn’t and the tears were needed.”

What an absolutey wonderful tribute from Terry !
Seems both Terry and I had similar fathers.
Unfortunately, I was never able to afford to go and meet Clinton, but I am the proud owner of one of his soft-bodied vent dolls, and the Maher course in ventriloquism.
Sleep well Clinton. The world is NOT a sadder place without you – it is a much happier place because of your creations which have brightened up the faces of so many all over the world. !
May I also wish Clinton’s family well.
Thank you all,
Bobby Thomson (Sittingbourne, U.K.).
