how did you become interested in
ventriloquism
i grew up with Jerry M you know um Paul
Weno Sherry Lewis uh uh Jimmy Nelson you
know um I grew up in and I liked them i
always liked them but I I’ll be honest I
thought a ventriloquist had some secret
talent yo I thought it was like singers
you were born with it i really did and
it wasn’t until I was 49 that I saw a
mutual friend do a ventriloquous act and
I’m saying well if he could do it and
his act was not that good it wasn’t
great and I said if he could do it it
must be something that you could learn
and yo and the internet was there and so
you know googling and you know doing you
know searches I found the information so
I bought every Ventriloquist DVD and every ventriloquist book and
whatever I could get my hands on and I
just started learning like I said so at
49 I started wow that is something and
then of course then you know I well two
things helped me out real good i found
the Florida Ventriloquist group okay and
started hanging out with them and then I
found out about
Vinhaven and went and that was then I
was totally hooked yeah um so how many
people are in the Florida ventriloquist
group
steady or for the main part there’s
probably about eight uh myself John
Perezy Al Stevens Margaret Davis
um Onita Pageant was pretty much common
um Mike Palma Jimmy
Vee uh they were and Jackie um Jackie Manna
they were the main group that were
supporting it and there were others but
they they seem to have faded away yeah
well it’s any group you know it your
life kind of sometimes takes you away
from from the fun um hey did you guys
have a regular meeting date or you know
when when I first started they were
meeting um what were they meeting every
other Sunday and Mike Palmer at the time
had a a magic shop so they were meeting
there so it was like about an hour and a
half trip for me up north and then it
kind of the group kind of faded mike
well
Mike Mike
um he he he got he got rid of the magic
shop and so then the group kind of fa
fell apart and so then uh it it was like
it was on hiatus for about two years
okay and uh then you know we were just
determined to try to get it back so then
what we we we came up with was for a
while what we’re doing we were having
meetings across the state from let’s say
Orlando to Tampa and we were meeting
every other month and we would meet at
different places house you know
different people’s houses so this way
nobody always had to do the traveling
you know so that worked out pretty good
so the meetings have been going on and
they the the last one was actually about
3 weeks ago I wasn’t able to attend but
you know they still are ongoing well
that’s great that’s great what kind of
things did you do at the meetings or do
you do at the meetings well let me
associate but we the last couple
meetings we did some shows uh we we were
at a place where they had a little stage
so we did some shows um we would talk
about writing comedy we would talk about
uh what we could do to encourage keep
going um how to market ourselves
um how to you know better our
techniques um so things like you know
that okay good content
