Christian ventriloquist David Pendleton and I continue to talk about the success of his DVD project in part six of an eleven part interview.
Video Transcript:
I sold—I think the last count is somewhere around 20,000 copies of that DVD.
Man, that is incredible. You do these as back-of-room sales?
Uh-huh. I do.
I haven’t really marketed them or sold them in stores, never pursued that avenue. It was mostly back-of-room sales.
I’ll tell you what really helped: getting booked with some of the larger Christian acts—the Southern Gospel community. Folks like the Gaither Homecoming phenomenon. Those events draw 10–15,000 people, big audiences who love going to Gaither events.
I had the privilege of being invited by Bill Gaither to join them on stage and do short snippets, just to add some fun and levity to their event. What that did for me was huge—people would see me on stage, then come to my table in the back and say, “Oh, I loved what you did. Do you do more?” And I could say, “Yes, I’ve got a whole show here,” and point them to the DVD.
That opened up a lot of sales. People would come up and buy the DVD right then and there. So I had some great opportunities that really helped propel the sales of those DVDs over the years.
