Part Two of a five part interview with Matt Fleckenstein ventriloquism student.

Video Transcript:

yeah that’s what the art of ventriloquism is all
about you got to have a good time with
it because let’s face it we’re all just
big
kids we’re playing with toys so yep yeah
it’s uh it’s one of the communities
where uh you will find everybody’s
friendly Jeff is a nice guy Terry Fator
one of the nicest guys you’d ever meet
Jay Johnson again nice guy these are all
big names and then if you were in Magic
uh you know these guys probably wouldn’t
even talk to somebody like me and you
know all the trade secrets and stuff
yeah in in the in the ventriloquist community
it’s all just I’m standing up there
talking to myself you know we’re so so
everybody’s got a real down toe attitude
yeah and so um how now you did a a show
for your kids school
yeah so my my when my son turned six um
I surprised him at his school and um and
it it was kind of good timing because it
was right around the time that I had
wrapped up the course and I needed to do
a um um a video for it and I didn’t want
to just you know i’ seen I’d seen some
of the other guys who had done
um something like just sitting on their
couch and I was like it’s just it just
doesn’t you know I want to do something
I want to I want to get out there so I
asked this teacher and I surprised him
at school and I did about 15 minutes I I
cut it down to about five for uh for for
the video there I posted on on YouTube
but um it uh it was fun the kids were
just laughing I you know by the time I
ended my hand was so sweaty I pulled it
out of the puppet and I was like and and
that had never happened to me I was I
was up there like shaking and everything
and um but uh it was it was it was fun
the the uh the comedy thing is um
although I don’t mind getting up in
front of people trying to do something
funny that you know you don’t know if
it’s if it is or not is uh it’s
challenging for me oh it was great I
mean I enjoyed it immensely you had the
kids laughing and that’s when you’re
working with kids that’s the key if
they’re laughing and they’re having a
good time it doesn’t matter what you’re
doing exactly just make sure they have a
great time yeah and it and it’s it’s
it’s fun because you know the kids they
seem to react a lot more to the
um um pantomime type thing the the the
the the Motions of of the puppets and
the those kind of reactions versus the
the straightup jokes and the and the
verbal end of the of Comedy well that
that’s good of you to recognize that
because a lot of people get up on stage
their very first time and they I know I
was a nervous
wreck so I was really impressed with
your
composure well thank you like I said I I
don’t mind I don’t mind getting up but
uh but yeah definitely coming up with
the jokes is is is hard
